
Historic Cardrona, located in the Southern Lakes district
on New Zealand's South Island, is home to Cardrona Chalets, family
friendly accommodation close to the ski slopes and within easy reach
of an assortment of activities and attractions.
Cardrona was settled during the goldrush days in the
1860's when thousands were struck by goldfever, at it's peak the
town consisted of four hotels, seven stores, four butcher shops,
a blacksmith and a baker. The Cardrona Hotel is only a few minutes
walk from the Chalets and is the only standing building from those
early days, it is a popular drinking spot in the afternoon for those
fresh from the ski slopes.
The town of Wanaka is only 15 minutes from Cardrona
and Queenstown is a 45 minute drive away, both are popular tourist
destinations offering a variety of services ranging from supermarkets
and souvenir shops to banking, medical and automotive. Numerous
restaurants, cafes and bars are also available.
Cardrona's ski fields are ideal for skiers and snowboarders,
boasting four half pipes for snowboarders and the combined lift
capacity exceeds 6500 people per hour. The views from the top take
in Wanaka, Queenstown and the Southern Alps.
