Cardrona is located between Wanaka and Queenstown in the Southern Lakes district on the South Island of New Zealand. Wanaka is a 15 minute drive from Cardrona and Queenstown is a 45 minute drive over the Crown Range.

How to get there

Cardrona is easily accessed from either Wanaka or Queenstown, either by plane, bus or car.

Qantas and Air New Zealand fly in and out of Queenstown to International destinations Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and domestic flights are also catered for by Qantas and Air New Zealand National. Coach and air services connect Wanaka and Queenstown with Wanaka Connexions offering a regular bus service between Wanaka and Queenstown - check out their website for timetables, drop-off and pic-up points and prices. You can also fly in and out of Dunedin, the distance from Dunedin to Cardrona is about 250kms.

If you're driving, remember to take snow chains. Car hire companies have special 'ski packages' which include ski racks, snow chains etc but if you're not skiing and unsure whether you'll need snow chains ask about them when getting a quote. The drive down to Cardrona from Christchurch is a scenic one and well worth the extra effort and time. The distance from Christchurch to Cardrona is approximately 450km and the drive can take 5-6 hours depending on the number of 'photo stops' you have along the way. You can book a hire car before arriving in New Zealand or you can book at Queenstown airport and Wanaka upon arrival.

Travelling by coach is another option with companies such as Newmans connecting both Wanaka and Queenstown with other towns and cities in New Zealand.

Neighbouring Towns

There are many places of interest within a short distance from Cardrona. Queenstown and Wanaka you have probably heard of, however, the towns of Cromwell and Arrowtown are also well worth a visit.
